Whether it’s on the job site or in the office, communication is key to the success of any construction project.
Read on to learn why effective project communication is so vital in commercial building construction and how the team at APPRO Development works to keep the channels of communication open to ensure a successfully completed project.
Why Effective Project Communication Is Vital to a Construction Project
Strengthens Relationships
Effective communication is essential in any construction project. It plays a crucial role in managing client expectations, experience, and satisfaction. Good communication also fosters collaboration and builds trust and transparency among stakeholders, ensuring that the final product meets or exceeds the client’s expectations.
Optimizes Workflow (and Reduces Mistakes!)
When misunderstandings and inaccuracies happen during a project, they have the potential to cause delays or mistakes that will, in turn, impact project cost.
Good communication helps ensure a project is completed on time and within budget.
Communicating well throughout a building project ensures that project goals, timelines, and specifications are conveyed to all stakeholders, reducing the chance of misunderstandings or costly mistakes. Good communication also facilitates accurate, timely decision making and keeps a project moving forward.
Improves Team Management
Clear communication helps a project manager form a clear roadmap for their team. To complete a building project successfully, a project manager must clearly define the chain of responsibilities their team needs to execute, from big-picture goals to daily tasks.
This kind of effective communication helps to foster a positive working environment, enhance team collaboration, boost productivity, and create a culture of mutual support.
Fuels Collaboration
Without effective communication, collaboration between stakeholders is impossible.
Any construction project involves a communication chain spanning the various stakeholders of the project, including architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients. Each of these individuals brings unique expertise to the table and has specific responsibilities to attend to.
Collaboration between these roles is vital to ensure a seamless project — and clear, consistent communication is what makes that collaboration work.
How APPRO Development Handles Project Communication
At APPRO Development, clear communication is our priority.
It’s the nature of construction that a building owner needs to be involved in a project from start to finish, so we make sure to communicate clearly with the owner throughout each step of the process.
We provide an overall schedule at the beginning of the project, then send an updated schedule every two weeks and connect daily to address updates or questions. Depending on the needs of the project, we’ll also hold weekly or bi-weekly construction Zoom meetings with the owner to review the schedule, budget, and design. This allows us to stay on top of the project and solve problems before they happen.
Once a project is completed, we hold an exit interview and provide the client with a project closeout binder.
Throughout every project, our goal is to paint a clear picture for our client of what tasks have been completed, what is currently being done, and what the next steps will be.
Internally, we strive to maintain clear and consistent communication among our team members with weekly staff and project management meetings as well as project-specific meetings as needed.
When problems or misunderstandings arise, we work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, providing solutions to ensure we maintain the schedule and budget determined for the project. Good or bad, we want to ensure our clients know the status of the project and what to expect moving forward.
Commercial building construction is a complex endeavor that requires clear, effective communication from start to finish. At APPRO Development, we infuse each project with a steady stream of communication to ensure a seamless experience for our clients.
